Hi everyone
I have been off work since the beginning of September and have now been diagnosed with RA. I am being paid statutory sick pay , which is obviously less than my usual pay. I live with my partner so I am lucky that I don't have to struggle on my own and wouldn't be classed as low income but there's still the bills to pay and my incomings are drastically reduced. done a little research but it's all so confusing. can't see that I am entitled to anything ! never claimed benefit in my life but don't see me returning to work any time soon. any ideas or can anyone recommend how to get advice ?

Hi Julie.

Sorry to hear of your plight

There are others on here who have good knowledge of the benefits system.

Doesn't your employer offer any assistance? Some will pay a certain number of weeks full pay and then at a lesser amount.

Could you apply for PIP or ESA? Look on the government's benefits website. https://www.gov.uk/browse/benefits .......hope this helps xxx

thanks Paul and Naomi
my employer is just paying me the lowest rate he can .. it's a small business so I can kind of understand but that doesn't help me ! I will have a look at the government website , thanks for the link. see if I can make head or tail of it ! it's kind of annoying that the system doesn't seem to support couples and married people , if I was on my own ( God forbid ! ) they would be helping a lot more. thanks again
